Temporary staff - a commodity?

Another facet of inclusion.
Temporary Staff helps filling gaps - you engage them when you need them, and you let them go when your need is over. No special treatment needed; they are some kind of commodity.

Criminy, no!

Would you want to work at a company that treats you like a second-class citizen?

Of course not.

And yet, so many companies do exactly that to their temporary staff. They give them the crappy jobs, the ones nobody else wants to do. They don’t give them the same training as they give to their permanent staff. They don’t respect them or value their opinion. They don’t include them in company events. And so on.

It is not only an ethical duty to treat temporary staff the same way as permanent staff. In treating temporary staff differently from permanent staff, you are also negatively impacting your own corporate culture. And you may see your Glassdoor or Kununu Overall Ratings going down very quickly.

If you’re a manager or business owner, don’t make the same mistake. Treat your temporary staff the same way you treat your permanent staff, and you’ll see your corporate culture strengthened and your ratings again tending to.
